Urs Festival 2023

The annual Urs celebration, which takes place in Ajmer, Rajasthan, India, honors the day of Sufi saint Moinuddin Chishti’s passing (founder of the Chishtiya Sufi order in India). It lasts six days and includes dhikr (zikr) qawwali singing all night long. The anniversary is observed in the seventh month by the Islamic lunar calendar. Numerous thousands of pilgrims travel from India and abroad to visit the site.

The sixth day of the Urs is the most significant and fortunate.”Chhati Sharif” is the name under which it is observed. It is observed inside the Mazaar Sharif or shrine complex on the sixth Rajab between 10:00 and 1:30. Duty-bound Khadims of Moinuddin Chishti read Shijra, or the family tree connected to the Chishti Order. Then there is Fariyad (prayers).

At the shrine’s main entrance, Badhaawa (a song of praise) is recited by Qawwals just before the Qu’l (conclusion of Chhati Sharif).

Badhaawa is a recitation accompanied by clapping; no music is played. It was written by Syed Behlol Chishty, known as Syedzadgan Khadim Khwaja Sahib, an ancestor of the contemporary Chishty Sufis of Ajmer Sharif.

The Khwaja Gharib Nawaz Dargah in Ajmer is filled with the aroma of burning incense and pilgrims pay respect to the saint’s grave by placing ceremonial chadars on top of it. The six-day Urs holiday is celebrated by lighting candles, saying prayers, and listening to qawwalis all night long. Rajab, the seventh month of the Islamic lunar calendar, during which the Urs festival is celebrated, is a significant time for devotees to perform Ziyarat at the revered shrine.

Meaning of the Urs festival:

The word “Urs,” which means “Wedding” in Arabic, refers to the union of a lover (a Sufi Saint) with God. The celebration commemorates when a Sufi Saint left his physical form and entered the celestial abode. Surprisingly, the wedding and the death anniversary are commemorated at this Ajmer fair.

Urs Festival Ajmer 2023 Date

This Urs symbolize the peace and harmony between Muslims and Hindus. The most important aspect of the brotherhood is this Urs.

The famous Sufi Saint Hazrat Khwaja Muinuddin Chishti’s Dargah received a flower offering from Pushkar, and the Khalis of worship supplies for Pushkar came from the Dargah Khwaja Sahib bazaar.

This best illustrates interfaith harmony and friendship between Hindus and Muslims.

In Ajmer, there was never any Hindu-Muslim tension. During the month of Ramadan, a lot of non-Muslims visit the Dargah and open Rosa.
