Electronic Devices: The term ‘electronics’ is derived from electron mechanics, termed as electrons + mechanics = electronics; it means the study of the behavior of an electron under various conditions of an applied electric field. When the word electronics is mentioned, the first thing that comes to mind is an electrical device’s small parts or circuits. Usually, one thinks of computer components, portable radios or mobile devices.
Electronic Devices consist of the following material;
- Vacuums
- Gases
- Semiconducting materials
Electronic Devices
This continuous flow of electrons is called electric current. Imagine that when a current is present, these electrons pass through the minor parts of an electronic device. The energy carried by electrons is used to power electronic devices. This may be too small to see with the naked eye, but the things they can do are more significant than anyone can imagine. They can recognize people, monitor oxygen and heart rate, see and talk to people thousands of miles away, and much more! Electronic devices control the flow of electrons and are the building blocks of electronic circuits to make these things possible.
How Do Electronic Systems Work?
To understand how electronic systems work, you need to find out where electricity comes from and how it gets to homes so people can use it to power their devices. Electrical energy is not freely available in nature for consumption because it must be generated or generated. Electricity is produced by fossil fuels such as natural gas, coal and nuclear power. However, most countries use alternative sources like hydroelectricity, biomass, geothermal and solar electricity.
Some energy sources are produced in large quantities that undergo a series of processes before traveling long distances to consumers. The amount of power that flows through wires has limits, and since the devices in our homes can only operate on a specific electrical power input, power flows through a transformer.
Types of Electronics
Different types of electronics can be classified according to their internal structure. Three categories of devices can be identified by examining the internal structure of an electronic system.
Input Devices the input item is a piece of hardware that sends information to the computer, meaning it can produce electrical signals for processing in an electronic circuit. Some examples of input devices are a keyboard, microphone or switch.
Information Processing Equipment: A device processing device in a computer that is considered an intermediate step in the processing and manipulating of incoming information or data. Examples of devices include a central processing unit (CPU), motherboard, sound card, or video card.
Output Devices – An output device is a piece of hardware that receives information from a computer and translates it into another form. Some instances of output devices are headphones, printers or projector screens. Similarly, electronics can also be classified by components. They are recognized as independent and integrated.
Self-contained: Electronics elements are simple or discrete, manufactured as a single unit.
Advantages of electronics
Electronic devices play an essential role in everyday life. There are various electronic devices that we use in our daily life.
Computers:
Today, computers are used around. Home computers help play games, watch movies, research, pay bills, and book railway and flight tickets. In school, students use computers to complete their assignments.
Mobile phones:
Mobile phones are used for various definitions. Some examples were sending text messages, making voice calls, surfing the internet, playing games and listening to songs.
ATM:
An ATM is an electronic telecommunication device exclusively used to withdraw money from anywhere at any time. ATM stands for Automated Teller Machine. Customers can withdraw money up to a specific limit anytime, day or night.
Television:
Television is an electronic device mainly used for entertainment and education. It is used to watch movies for entertainment, news for knowledge, and cartoons for children.
What are Semiconductors?
Semiconductors, called integrated circuits (ICs) or microchips, are made from pure elements, usually silicon or compounds such as germanium or gallium arsenide. In this doping process, small amounts of impurities are added to these pure elements, causing significant changes in the material’s conductivity. Because of their role in manufacturing electronic devices, semiconductors are essential to our lives.
Electric Circuit
Electric circuits form a closed-loop or network of pathways through which electrons flow. This path is made for electrical wires and is powered by a source such as a battery. The point where electrons start to flow is called the source, and where electrons leave the electrical circuit is called the return. Let’s do a little experiment. You will need the following:
- Electric bulb
- Wire
- Electrical tape
- A battery
Conclusion:
Electronics is a complex subject governed by many principles and interrelated relationships. However, when broken down into its essential elements, many common relationships and devices govern the behavior of most electronic devices. This is made of atoms with electrons orbiting around the outside of the atoms.
